RED ALERT IN YOUR KITCHEN! BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU PUT ON YOUR TABLE! THE MOST DISGUSTING SUPERMARKET FRAUD EXPOSED: THEY’RE SELLING YOU WASTE AS IF IT WERE PRIME CUT MEAT. CHECK YOUR REFRIGERATOR RIGHT NOW!
[MEXICO CITY – CONSUMER RESEARCH UNIT] – How many times have you gone to the supermarket hoping to stretch your budget, looking for that bargain at the butcher counter to feed your family? With inflation through the roof and the price of a kilo of steak and chicken breast reaching insane levels, we’re all looking for a budget-friendly alternative. But BEWARE! Because that quest for “good, nice, and cheap” can cost you your health and make you feel sick.
A citizen complaint has exploded on social media, raising alarms at the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (PROFECO) and among thousands of housewives who now feel betrayed, scammed, and disgusted. The image at the top of this article isn’t from a horror movie or a failed experiment; it’s what a Mexican family found in a beautifully wrapped Styrofoam tray, misleadingly labeled “Assorted for Broth” or “Mixed Offal.”
THE FIND THAT WILL SATISFY YOUR HUNGER: WHAT ON EARTH ARE THOSE TUBES?
Take a good look at the photograph they sent us. No, it’s not strange macaroni, or squid, or anything like that—it’s an exotic delicacy. It’s a pile of tubular tissue, pale pinkish-white in color, with a texture that looks rubbery and cartilaginous . It’s cut into uniform pieces, revealing a central hole surrounded by flesh that doesn’t seem like muscle, but something… different.
The victim of this scam, whom we’ll call Doña “Chuy” to protect her identity (and her shame at having bought this), recounts the horrifying moment: “I went to the big supermarket chain, the one with the red logo, looking for something to make some broth for my dad who had a hangover. I saw the cheap tray; they said it was ‘scraps with bone and meat.’ It looked clean, neatly arranged. But when I got home and took off the plastic… I almost threw up right there!”
Upon opening the package, the smell wasn’t that of fresh meat. It was a sour, metallic smell. But the worst part was the texture. When she touched the pieces you see in the picture, she realized they were hard, like rubber hoses. “That won’t soften even in a pressure cooker for three days,” she commented indignantly.
EXPERT OPINION: “THAT’S TRASH, IT’S WHAT WE THROW ON THE GROUND AT THE SLAUGHTERHOUSE”
To avoid being left with doubts and not just talking for the sake of talking, our research team took the photograph and a sample of the “product” to Don Anselmo, an old-school butcher with 40 years of experience in the La Merced Market.
When Don Anselmo saw the sight of the tubular pieces piled on the tray, his face transformed from curiosity to utter repulsion. He spat on the ground and said in a grave voice:
“You’ve got to be kidding me! Is that what they’re selling to people? Look, young man, that’s not meat. That’s tracheas, esophagus, and parts of the reproductive system of a cow or pig, but the parts that get thrown away. In my day, that went straight into the grinder to make bone meal or cheap dog food. It’s pure cartilage and mucus. It has no nutritional value, no good protein. It’s garbage. It’s what’s left over from the animal after they take out what’s actually valuable.”
The butcher explained that, by cutting these tracheas into small slices, as is clearly visible in the evidence, supermarkets try to disguise them as “tripe” or “nerve” to fool the untrained eye. But the reality is that they are selling you the tube through which the animal breathed, full of who knows what bacteria if it wasn’t properly washed.
THE LEST DANGER: A BACTERIOLOGICAL BOMB IN YOUR POT
But disgust isn’t the only problem. We consulted Dr. Felipe Morales, a gastroenterologist, and his verdict was terrifying. “Consuming these types of improperly processed offal is extremely risky. These structures are conduits. Air, mucus, and bodily fluids pass through them. If they don’t undergo a rigorous industrial cleaning process (which I doubt they do, since they’re sold as scraps), they can contain fecal bacteria, remnants of the animal’s food, or parasites that live in the mucous membranes.”
Imagine you put that on to boil. You think the heat kills everything, but the toxins remain in the broth. You’re feeding your children a literal “breeding ground.”
THE MACHIAVELLIAN STRATEGY OF SUPERMARKETS: PROFIT OVER DIGNITY
Why do they do this? The answer is simple and painful: MONEY. Big corporations know the crisis is tough. They know people are looking for low prices. So, instead of throwing this waste away, they package it nicely, slap a “Special Offer” label on it, and charge you 50 or 60 pesos for something that should go in the trash.
They’re selling you a pig in a poke , or rather, a hose instead of meat . They’re taking advantage of the Mexican people’s desperation. They see that tray full of pale pieces and think, “They won’t even notice anyway; with lots of salsa and lime, everything tastes the same.” It’s an affront to our food and our dignity!
DON’T BE FOOLED! HOW TO IDENTIFY THIS CRAP?
To avoid what happened to Doña Chuy, here are the keys to identifying this fraud, based on the image of the crime:
- THE SHAPE: If you see that the “meat” is shaped like a perfect tube, with a hole in the middle and thick, hard walls, DON’T BUY IT! Real meat is fiber, muscle, not a pipe.
- THE COLOR: Look for the pale, almost pinkish-white tone of the cuts. Beef should be bright red; pork, deep pink. This “washed-out” color indicates cartilage or connective tissue without blood or nutrients.
- THE PRICE: If it’s too good to be true, it probably is. Nobody’s going to give you steak at the price of a bone.
- THE LABEL: Be wary of generic names like “Grilling Mix”, “Special Assortment” or “Mixed Scraps” if you can’t clearly see what the pieces are.
CONCLUSION: SPREAD THE WORD AND REPORT IT!
We can’t let them keep taking advantage of us. Next time you go to the supermarket, double-check what you put in your cart. If you see a tray with these disgusting “hoses,” take a picture, post it on social media, and tag the store and PROFECO (the Mexican consumer protection agency).
Your family’s health is not a game. Don’t feed them industrial waste disguised as dinner. Share this message with all your friends, your family, and your school group chat! Let all of Mexico know they’re trying to sell us garbage at exorbitant prices. ENOUGH OF THIS RIP-OFF!
