Miguel Uribe Turbay,  the right-wing Colombian presidential candidate, is in  “critical condition”  following the shooting he suffered this Saturday at a campaign event in Bogotá, confirmed the Santa Fe Foundation, where he was admitted.

“We have received Mr. Miguel Uribe Turbay at our Emergency Department. He was admitted in critical condition and is receiving priority care from our team of specialists. He is currently undergoing neurosurgical and peripheral vascular procedures,” the clinic reported in its initial medical report on the senator’s condition.

Uribe Turbay was shot twice, and the alleged attacker is a minor under 15, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.

The Colombian Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the alleged perpetrator of Saturday’s attack on Senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay is a 15-year-old boy who was arrested at the scene with a gun.

“The attack against the candidate for the Democratic Center party, who received two bullet wounds to his body and in which two other people were also injured, took place in the Modelia neighborhood of the town of Fontibón (…) where a 15-year-old minor was arrested carrying a Glock-type firearm (9 millimeters),” the entity stated.

The Prosecutor’s Office reported that it has activated a strategy with “four lines of investigation” and opened two criminal investigations, in coordination with the National Police to try to clarify the incident, identify the perpetrators and masterminds, and bring them to justice.

He also indicated that his priority is “the collection of information and physical evidence that will allow us to establish the truth about the attack and identify and prosecute both the perpetrators and those in charge.”

Attorney General Luz Adriana Camargo Garzón described the attack as an “attack on the country’s forms of democratic participation” and asked institutions for support to “shield the 2026 electoral process” and “provide full guarantees to the campaigns and those aspiring to political power, as a strength of democracy.”

Colombian Defense Minister Pedro Sánchez Suárez offered a reward of 3 billion pesos (about $729,000) for information leading to the capture of those responsible for the attack.

The senator is the son of Diana Turbay, a journalist who was kidnapped and murdered in 1991 by drug traffickers in the service of Pablo Escobar, and the grandson of former President Julio César Turbay, who governed the country between 1978 and 1982. (EFE)

On the night of Saturday, June 7, 2025, as the country continued to reel from the attack on Senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay, an image began circulating on social media that, according to multiple sources, was an X-ray of his skull after he had been shot.

The image—replicated on platforms such as X—clearly shows the presence of the projectile lodged in the region of the skull,  apparently without passing through central structures.

For its part, the Santa Fe de Bogotá Foundation, where Uribe was urgently transferred, issued an official statement. “Tonight, Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 8:30 p.m., we received Mr. Miguel Uribe Turbay at our Emergency Department. He was admitted in critical condition and is receiving priority care from our team of specialists,” the institution stated.

According to the medical report, Uribe is currently undergoing a “neurosurgical and peripheral vascular procedure” and all highly complex care protocols have been activated.  “Our healthcare team and the institution’s technical resources are fully prepared to provide the necessary treatment with the utmost commitment, rigor, and humanity,” the statement added.
